Aventura is one of the most popular Latin music acts today. The Dominican-American "bachata" band was originally formed in 1994 in The Bronx, New York, with members Anthony Santos, Lenny Santos, Max Santos, and Henry Santos Jeter, with fourth member Romeo joining later as lead singer and composer. Self-taught and determined to break into the music industry, Aventura made their big break in 1999, with the hopes of breaking Dominican bachata music out from its traditional base and fuse it with modern popular sounds like Hip Hop and R&B. Their very unique "bachata-fusion" sound has extended their popularity from their local roots in NYC to Latin America, Europe and Asia and has earned them nominations and awards from the Latin music industry, including Premio Lo Nuestro and the Latin Billboards.
Aventura recently announced a hiatus for the band. For many fans, Aventura's split is bittersweet. But for the guys, it's a new beginning. The group wrapped up the U.S. leg of "The Last" tour with a party presented by Hennessy. My Latino Voice spoke with Lenny Santos and Max Santos of Aventura about their overseas tours, their upcoming plans and what it means to be Latino.
