Did you know that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of Hispanic women? What if saving one woman’s life was as easy as choosing the right color to wear?  Join My Latino Voice in going RED to raise awareness of heart disease in our community.

Every year, during American Heart Month, all across the country people wear red to show their support for Go Red For Women and to help raise awareness of heart disease. National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 5, and as part of the Go Red Por Tu Corazón movement, we are asking you to GO RED and help save a woman’s life by speaking from your heart about the increased risk of heart disease in Hispanic women.

Why should you participate?

On average, Hispanic women are likely to develop heart disease 10 years earlier than Caucasian women. Today, more than 8 percent of Hispanics, age 18 and older, have heart disease.  That’s why we invite you to be a part of Go Red Por Tu Corazón this February during American Heart Month to educate Hispanic women about the threat of heart disease and empower them to make life-saving choices for themselves and their families.

How can you help?

“Going Red” is as easy as putting on a red dress, a red tie or a red dress pin. By simply WEARING RED to show your support, you will help raise awareness of heart disease in Hispanic women. Don’t have anything red to wear? No problem. We can provide you with:
  • Our signature red dress pins for you and all of your anchors/hosts to wear with your outfit
  • An exclusive Geoffrey Beene red tie
  • Cooking tips and heart-healthy recipes

ATTEND NATIONAL CASTING CALL THIS FRIDAY FEB 5th

In addition to wearing red, we invite you to speak from your heart and spread the word among Hispanic women by attending the National Casting Call at Macy’s Herald Square in New York City. On February 5, the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women and Go Red Por Tu Corazón will kick-off its nationwide casting call with the participation of Nuestra Belleza Latina 2008 winner, Melissa Marty. Go Red For Women is looking for Hispanic women to join the Go Red Por Tu Corazón movement by sharing their heart stories and helping to raise awareness of heart disease in Hispanic women. And My Latino Voice will be there to support you and this important event!

BOOK AN INTERVIEW WITH MELISSA MARTY

Melissa Marty will be available for interviews on Feb. 4 and at the event on Feb. 5. Melissa lost her grandmother to heart disease and has joined the Go Red Por Tu Corazón movement to inspire other Latinas to make heart-healthy choices for themselves and their family.
