Dubbed the "Latina Sade" in the press, Gemma Genazzano exudes the soulfulness and the sexiness that comes with the moniker. But the sultry songstress makes one thing clear to My Latino Voice during her interview: She's more than a jazz performer, she's a soul singer. So what is she doing that is so special? Well, aside from taking time away from a busy performing and touring schedule to answer our questions, we are happy to report that Genazzano is making waves for being one of the few women who sing and write soul songs in the Spanish language. Growing up in Barcelona, Spain, Genazzano thought she would follow in her famous father's footsteps (her father is the late Italian actor, Osvaldo Genazzani). But her childhood passion for soul and funk trumped her desire for the stage. The acting stage, that is. And after moving to the U.S. to carve a career as a singer, she decided to do it in her native language. Ever since, Genazzano has been traveling to jazz joints around the world, writing about love, and lovemaking, and, most importantly to her, about being a woman. Genazzano's career is one we'll be watching. You can catch one of her upcoming appearances (check out tour dates on gemmagenazzano.com.) Our thanks to Sarah Bisconte for bringing Gemma to My Latino Voice. Here is Gemma's exclusive interview with My Latino Voice: Watch Gemma's new video "Take Me Away"
